Barbara Park is one of my favorite children's authors. She has several 4-6th grade books, but she also has a series of about 2nd grade reading level books entitled Junie B. Jones and..... There are 27 books in the series, I own them all except the latest as it is hard cover and I am waiting for it to come out in paper back. Junie B. Jones was a kindergartener that has since graduated to first grade. Her humor is still the same. She wins a fruitcake at a school carnival...doesn't like it and ends up using for a booster seat! She takes fish sticks to school for pet day...her antics are endless. I read one tonight - Boo...and I Mean it. It is how she is scared of Halloween and deals with her fears. There are 5 scary facts that her friend told her about Halloween. The fifth fact was, "Candy corn isn't really corn." She comments on this saying, "That candy corn one is shocking I tell you!" This struck me as funny as last year my students wrote stories from the pumpkin's perspective to save their lives on Halloween. That same discussion came up with my 6th graders. Why is it called candy corn? It looks nothing like corn. It tastes nothing like corn...which led into the discussion of how the taste is disgusting...etc. I look forward to reading this series this year. It has been 7 years since I have read to kids!
I went shopping today....I know, I know, DON'T die of shock....I had a mission. I wanted ONE book from Barnes and Noble. ONE book! I left with FIVE. I hate that store! It is like Lay's Potato Chips...betcha can't have just one!
I am going to call the district office and start to bug them on a regular basis so we can get our alarm codes so we can get into the building on the weekends and after hours. I can't even have a key until this is done. I thought about Fillmore West II. I put him in the tank Friday night and then realized I can't feed him for 3 days. So he may be dead on Tuesday morning! SO I wasn't thinking ahead...what else is new?
I am in the process of looking for pen pals for my class. It would nice if they were overseas, but I think they will be pleased with anyone. I have been asking around. I also want to send our "Buddy"- stuffed animal - to another class for a visit, and we want to host a buddy.
My friend has a job interview on Tuesday at a local middle school. I have been praying that she gets a job. I hope she gets this one. It is 6th grade history and language arts. If she does get it, I can help her with history I taught that at Stevens.
Quizzing has started once again. The retreat is next week in Moscow. We have 9 quizzers this time. That is the most we have ever had. That is enough for 2 full teams. I don't even know what book they are studying this year. I will know soon though.
At our school each grade is responsible to be on the social committee for one month in the school year. My month is October. I am going to make Halloween cards for the staff. I think that is 57 cards! I am making a Frankenstein card out of an envelope. It is really cute.
The weather should be cooling down soon...I am looking forward to when I can turn off my AC. I would and then just open the house when I get home as it isn't that hot, but Brann can't take the heat now that he is sick. Last week I accidentally left it off, and Brannigan was horribly lethargic...even more than normal. So I learned my lesson. Speaking of Brann, he is doing a little better. He still doesn't each much at all. And there are days where he is lethargic, but it is seeming that the good days are starting to outnumber the bad. I found a lump on his stomach this evening, that I will have the vet look at on Tuesday when we go back again.
Well I am yawning so much that it is hard to even read the screen! I will turn in and probably fall asleep reading my new book.
